Student Design Work

I help students become graphic designers. In fact, it’s one of the best things about my career. Sure, there are great perks like flexible time (three months off during summer), and eternal campus life. But, most of all, I enjoy coordinating some pretty rad student design work. So, I want to share some of my students’ work with you.

Paper Cliché

I’ve heard the cliché that says if you love your career you’ll never work a day in your life and I practice it. Consequently, my wife says I must only play at work and that no one should have that much fun in a career. She says it jokingly of course, right, Amy? I admit I have a blast,  even though there is paperwork of the non-art variety, and the occasional dramatic faculty member. It is a privilege to train future designers as well as creatives of all varieties. Furthermore, I hope my students will bring some visual sense to the world.

With Extra Salt

I have made a home in the university classroom since 1999. I took a break from teaching in 2003 to work in both the music and design field. All in all, I’ve taught classes ranging from the foundation level to capstone. This includes Web, Motion, and Advertising. In addition, I’ve covered Package Design, Creative Process, Typography, and more. In fact, I’ve even taught General Education Art Appreciation. So, I wonder, am I seasoned yet? I think “seasoned” is just a polite way of saying I’m old and I have been doing this a long time.

Staying Connected

Ultimately, student engagement is key. For this reason, I actively seek to help students wherever they need help. Indeed it is an honor to contribute to their lives, and, in fact, I often hear from working graduates through social media. I try to keep in touch as much as possible. So even beyond graduation, I play an active roll when possible by connecting former students to potential opportunities. So, if you hear of any job opening for a graphic designer pass them on to me, because there are always students looking.

Student Design Work Examples

I’ve loved seeing students develop and, of course, execute their ideas. So, finally, here’s a small taste of the thousands of projects I’ve seen come through my classroom. Click on the images to enlarge and view the class titles.

Web Design I Sophomore Level

Here you can view a playlist of mobile sites and apps created by my Sophomore Web Design I class. This semester we used InVision to mock up the sites rather than fully hand coding to allow the students focus on UI and UX.
